Hiking and Biking Day Trips

Beyond Prague

I like organising cycling, hiking and cross-country skiing trips for my Czech friends and foreign travellers and I know plenty of great trails, especially in the Central Bohemian Region. It takes only 30–60 minutes by train from Prague to discover the charm of the real Czech country and nature, where you can enjoy some movement, clear your head and recharge your batteries. Even a short trip to such places will provide you with an unforgettable experience.

Every traveller is unique! If you wish, I will be happy to prepare a custom-made tour for you personally, to suit your preferences and interests.

PRIVATE HIKE

All-day tour
Karlštejn Castle & woods off the beaten track

Do you like to hike?
Do you want to avoid crowds, tourist traps and kitschy gift shops?

Hundreds of tourists visit the famous Karlštejn Castle every day. However, most of them take a traditional tour, and they miss the chance to visit the most impressive parts of the castle and to enjoy the most scenic view of the castle surrounded by woods. If you join me for a walk, I’ll be happy to show you the Karlštejn area from a different perspective. My ancestors settled in the Karlštejn village more than one hundred years ago, and part of my family still live here. I like to walk in the forests around the castle, and I know many beautiful trails off the beaten track.

My favourite all-day cycling trips

Over hills, through valleys and deep forests of Křivoklátsko

My favourite trip to take in the surroundings of Prague. We set off from the Masarykovo Nádraží train station to change to our own pedals half an hour later. We’ll ride along paved cycle paths and minor roads for a few short stretches; most of the route, however, goes along easily negotiable forest paths. Still, we won’t avoid a few bumpy sections and a longer climb which will be rewarded with a breath-taking view and an exciting several-kilometre-long downhill ride to the Berounka river, where we can hop on the train back to Prague. If you’re not too tired, we can make the trip longer and continue along the river to the next train station. Along the way we can, of course, stop in local pubs to grab a bite to eat and have a liquid refreshment or two.

Along the picturesque valley of the Kačák stream

An easy trip along the small river Kačák, most of the time more or less downhill. We’ll set off on the train from the Masarykovo Nádraží train station. Once on our bikes, we’ll pass through a sleepy small Czech town and then continue past old water mills and the villa of the richest Czech businessman. The only more demanding short climb will be rewarded in no time at all by a rest in a picturesque pub in a typical Czech weekend house colony. Further on, we will pass through a beautiful alley and several villages along a smaller road. In a deep karst valley we will see a Baroque monastery with a miraculous healing spring at the foot of a monumental rock. If we arrive at the right time of the day, we can also have a great meal at one of the best countryside restaurants in central Bohemia. Finally, we will cycle through the rocky valley of the Berounka river before catching the train back to Prague.
